OEF’s Social Good Accelerator (SGA) Is Set to Amplify Social Good Across The Bahamas
Nonprofits are the backbone of many communities, providing food assistance, mental health support, youth programming, disaster relief, environmental protection, and countless services that strengthen daily life in The Bahamas. Yet many of these organizations operate with limited resources, small teams, and increasing demand.
To address this gap, OEF has launched a bold and transformative initiative: the Social Good Accelerator (SGA), made possible through the generous support of a partner foundation. This national program is designed to strengthen nonprofit capacity, foster collaboration, and expand the social impact of organizations nationwide.
A Response Rooted in Real Challenges
The SGA was born out of lessons learned from Hurricane Dorian and the COVID-19 pandemic, two events that revealed both the incredible resilience of Bahamian nonprofits and the systemic vulnerabilities that can limit their potential and reach. Chronic underfunding, operational constraints, staff burnout, and fragmented support systems have long challenged the sector.
OEF recognized the urgency of a coordinated national approach — one that equips nonprofit leaders with the tools, training, and networks they need to sustainably serve their communities.
OEF has already engaged more than 70 nonprofit leaders through ongoing meetups focused on shared learning, collaboration, and the creation of long-term partnership opportunities. These monthly gatherings are fostering a supportive community where nonprofits can exchange ideas, discuss obstacles, co-design solutions, and build the relationships necessary for collective action.
These early efforts are laying the groundwork for the full implementation of the Social Good Accelerator, which will offer:
- Comprehensive nonprofit leadership training
- Governance and board development support
- Access to funding opportunities and ongoing training
- Shared knowledge and toolkits
- Joint initiatives across organizations
- Improved operational systems and structures
Mentorship and peer-learning networks
Nonprofits are not just service providers either. They are employers, innovators, and essential economic contributors. By strengthening internal capacity, the SGA will help nonprofits become more efficient, more resilient, and more effective in fulfilling their missions.
The Social Good Accelerator positions nonprofits as key partners in addressing inequality, expanding opportunities, and improving the quality of life, especially for vulnerable populations. With enhanced capacity, organizations will be better equipped to respond to disasters, deliver essential services, secure funding, and strengthen The Bahamas’ social fabric.
Fueling a More Resilient Future
The SGA is a direct reflection of how much stronger we are together. Through philanthropic investment, OEF and its partners are amplifying the collective power of nonprofit organizations and helping build a stronger and more resilient Third Sector for the entire nation.
Together, we can create an ecosystem where nonprofits thrive, and the communities they serve benefit from the full strength of their missions.
