On Thursday, October 20th 2016, the One Eleuthera Cooperative Credit Union (OECCUL) offered a free reduction of its usual $10 registration fee, for new members wishing to sign-up for the OECCUL in recognition of World Credit Union Day at various locations throughout Eleuthera. The event took place between 10am-2pm and sign up locations included: The South Eleuthera Mission in Rock Sound, Buywise Hardware Parking Lot in Tarpum Bay, Palmetto Point Clinic and BTC Parking Lot in Governors Harbour. The Manager of Credit Union Mr Walter Carey, spoke on the credit unions and was impressed by the turn out for OECCUL sign-ups. The OECCUL recieved very positive feedback with a total of 25 new persons becoming members of OECCUL and even more persons requesting further information.
The OCCEUL motto is “People helping people to help themselves.” Credit Unions provide you the opportunity to invest and participate in a local bank. You are able to attend Annual General Meetings and vote as a member of a credit union. Mr Carey highlighted that credit unions have the same regulations as traditional banks and that all deposits within the Credit Union are insured, meaning that your money is safely secured.
Members of the public are encourage to come into the South Eleuthera Mission building and sign up. For those persons who are already signed up you are also encouraged to start making deposits.
