Discovering the wonders of growing: Students from Green Castle Primary School immerse themselves in the fascinating science of plant anatomy and seed germination.
The Outdoor Classroom: Cultivating The Next Generation of Growers
Education is at the heart of OEF’s mission, and we delight in welcoming students of all ages to learn and explore our sustainable agriculture farm and state-of-the-art Oasis Grow House. This month, we had the pleasure of hosting primary school students from Green Castle and Wemyss Bight Primary Schools for a special half-day visit and experiential learning session at the CTI Farm. The students explored the Oasis Grow House and learned how this innovative structure plays a key role in local food security by safeguarding and optimizing the facility’s environment to keep the plants comfortable and healthy. The young learners absorbed fun facts about seed anatomy and germination through engaging, interactive activities that demonstrated where our food comes from and the importance of local agriculture, as well as the protection of our natural ecosystems and environment.
These young learners are intrigued by hands-on activities designed to prompt their curiosity and exploration of plant science.
Agriculture can be both a source of livelihood and a powerful tool for community health and transformation. Local school visits are part of our ongoing efforts to educate youth and ignite their passion for agriculture. These visits enrich our students’ understanding of their local environment and provide an introduction to sustainability and conservation practices. By offering these experiences, we aim to spark curiosity and creativity while showing young people how they can be part of the solution.
We are grateful to have the platform to expose, inspire, and cultivate the next generation of farmers, agriculturists, backyard growers, and environmentalists on Eleuthera. As we look to expand these programs and continue engaging students of all ages, we invite your support. Your contributions to education help fund programs that ensure more children on Eleuthera can access resources, opportunities, and experiences to shape a more sustainability-focused outlook and future.
