A Living Classroom Takes Flight:
The Bird’s Eye View Nature Trail
Eleuthera’s natural landscapes are among its greatest treasures and one of its greatest opportunities. The newly launched Bird’s Eye View Birding and Nature Trail is transforming conservation into education, tourism development, and community opportunity all at once.
Developed with support from the UNDP GEF Small Grants Programme and the American Bird Conservancy, the trail protects critical coppice ecosystems while introducing visitors to the wonders of Eleuthera’s remarkable biodiversity and wildlife.
Already, international birding groups have begun visiting in search of Eleuthera’s teeming bird populations and rare finds. But the trail is more than a destination. It is also a dynamic classroom. Students now have access to immersive environmental and heritage education experiences in their own backyard.
The first eco-guide training was provided by OEF at no cost to local tour guides and tourism stakeholders, increasing local capacity and awareness.
Meanwhile, conservation awareness continues to expand across communities, helping protect migratory birds that depend on our coppice forests and connecting Eleuthera to global conservation networks.
The Bird’s Eye View Trail reflects the belief that environmental protection and economic opportunity can coexist and must work in tandem.
Help expand conservation education and eco-tourism training through your Anniversary Gift. Protecting habitats strengthens biodiversity, and connecting Eleuthera’s youth to nature builds stewardship.
